from the Sams or Riders stuff.  The Sams & Rider guides focus on direct-plug-in substitutions.  This is totally the opposite in many ways, describing substitutions that require changes, such as using a different basing tube, tubes that will work with resistance changes in the circuit, etc.
Thus, this manual is a nice compliment to those Sams or Rider substitution guides because the content is not the same at all.  This Sylvania manual would not replace a Sams or Rider substitution guide, NOR would a Sams or Rider guide replace this manual.
first section: "tube classification chart", which classifies tubes by type (Amplifiers, converters, diodes, etc...) and gives typical Gm values where applicable.
second section: "circuit mods that would require additional/different resistors"
third section: "battery tube types

fourth section: "150ma tube types"
fifth section: "300ma tube types"
sixth section: "transformer and auto types".  This section covers popular audio tubes, such as 2A3, 5U4's, 6A3, 6B4G, 6L6, 6N6G, etc...
seventh section: "television tubes", although these days people would classify tubes such as 12AX7, 12AU7, 12AT7, etc... audio tubes and not television tubes!
eighth section: "picture tubes"
ninth section: "frequently needed change-over diagrams"
